Principal's Message

Progress reports and PM1 scores came home this week. Please remember, these scores serve as a starting point that reflects where students are right now with grade-level content. Our goal is for every student to reach a Level 3, 4, or 5 by the end of the year and, if previously tested, to show their learning gains.

We are looking ahead to 1st Quarter Conference Week, which will take place the week of October 27. Our goal is to meet with every family. Teachers will be reaching out with their availability, but please know you do not have to wait until then—you are always welcome to connect with your child’s teacher sooner.

Many parents have also asked how they can support their child’s learning at home. Here are some excellent online practice programs we encourage students to use:

  • Reflex (1st–5th grade)
  • Frax (3rd–5th grade)
  • Lexia (based on student needs)
  • Reading Plus (based on student needs)
  • Study Island (3rd-5th grade)

In addition, we are excited to share our schoolwide reading goal of 1,000 books this each week! Students can read books at their AR level at home and then take quizzes at school. (Please note: AR quizzes may only be completed at school.)

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students grow. Together, we can make this an incredible year of learning and achievement!

With appreciation,
Erin Albert, Principal

Accelerated Reader (AR) Program

Our school will be promoting the Accelerated Reader (AR) program this year. Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer-based reading program used in many schools to help teachers manage and monitor students’ independent reading practice. With AR students will:

  • Read books of their choice (within their reading level)
  • Take short quizzes on the computer after finishing each book
  • Earn points based on how well they do on the quiz and the difficulty of the book

Once students take their Star Reading tests teachers will be sending home information that provides students’ reading levels. Parents can encourage and assist their students with getting their AR points by ensuring they are reading nightly at home. If they do not have a library book at home, Sora is a great app they can use to find books on their level. Sora is located on their Launchpad and you can search for books based on their level.
